“Krakow Film Festival Catching Waves” at the 43rd Gdynia Film Festival

The film programme of the 43rd Gdynia Film Festival includes a total of 50 films participating in the Main Competition, Visions Apart Competition and Short Film Competition, but also many non-competing sections. Among them, there are the films awarded at Krakow Film Festival.

Thanks to the co-operation of the Gdynia Film Festival with the Krakow Film Festival, the viewers in Gdynia will have a chance to watch selected films, awarded this year in Krakow. In the section “Krakow Film Festival Catching Waves,” there are five films, the best documentary films and one animated film.

“On the 15th anniversary of Krakow Film Foundation we will show in Gdynia the films which we love the most: with clear protagonists, strong subject matter, painstakingly made and sincere. At the Gdynia Film Festival, we will present various faces of the contemporary documentary film and one animated gem. Do not miss it,” says Krzysztof Gierat, the director of the Krakow Film Festival.

The self-reflective character of the documentary film by Rafał Łysak allows us to come closer to an unusual relationship between a twentysomething and his grandma.The woman cannot accept her grandson’s homosexuality, even though he is someone very important to her.

Staniątki near Krakow: behind a centuries-old wall, the oldest Benedictine nunnery in Poland hides. Its inhabitants are cheerful elderly ladies who do not avoid jokes, puns and small pointed utterances. The camera watches their work and prayer.

Another part of the animated triptych, in which the author returns to the concept of impossible figures.This time, the concept is supposed to illustrate men-women’s relations.
