Krakow Film Festival returns … every month!

KFF VOD starts tomorrow, on August 26th – the most interesting films of the festival will be available periodically online throughout Poland!

After the spectacular success of the 60th Krakow Film Festival, which was the first film event in Poland to be held on the Internet, Krakow Film Foundation is launching a new virtual project – KFF VOD. Each month, the most interesting documentaries, animations and short fiction films, showcased in unique thematic sets, will be made available to viewers online for several days. Among them, the hits of the last edition of the Festival, cult films from years ago and premieres!

Taking the difficult decision to organize this year’s edition of the Krakow Film Festival online, we decided to create our own streaming platform, which gave us full independence. The surprisingly high attendance at the festival and the incessant voices of the audience prompted us to use the existing tools also in the inter-festival period. This is how the KFF VOD – the monthly review of festival films, was created, explains Barbara Orlicz-Szczypuła, director of the programming office of the Krakow Film Festival.

Many of the films we present at the Festival rarely go to wide distribution. This pandemic year is particularly difficult for their creators, as many film events have been canceled. Thanks to our initiative, we will once again provide viewers with titles that enjoyed exceptional recognition, but also give them the opportunity to see them in new context, adds Krzysztof Gierat, director of the festival.

KFF VOD will start with the presentation of documentaries about women. Among them, the winner of this year’s audience award “TheSelf Portrait” (dir. Katja Høgset, Margreth Olin, Espen Wallin) about an anorexic Norwegian photographer for whom art becomes a form of self-therapy. In the documentary “Kosher Beach” directed by Karin Kainer, we will look behind the high walls of an unusual beach in Tel Aviv, which is a refuge for Orthodox residents of the city who are eager to swim in the sea. The protagonists of the film “Lili” (dir. Peter Hegedus) are women-mothers who share much more than just blood ties – a family trauma of abandonment inherited from generation to generation.

The films in the Women series will be made available online in Poland from August 26-28, 2020 at www.krakowfilmfestival.pl. One-time access for PLN 14 allows you to watch the movie for 24 hours.

The 61st Krakow Film Festival will be held from May 30 to June 6, 2021.
