Wojciech Wiszniewski Retrospective

Presenting Wojciech Wiszniewski Retrospective.

Thirty years ago, on 21 February 1981, a day before his 35th birthday, Wojciech Wiszniewski, one of the most talented filmmakers in Poland, died of heart attack. This premature death precluded his feature‑length debut or artistic fulfilment. But his earlier works, which include ten short documentaries, one medium‑length feature film and one television performance (Ladislav Fuks’s The Cremator), ensure recognition in the history of Polish cinema for him as a visionary documentarist, an artist with distinctive style and passion who cared for the lives of people manipulated by the ruling political system. To celebrate his double jubilee which falls this year, the festival presents a broad selection of his works: all important short films (except for the two films he made as a student and one freelance work), one fiction film as well as a picture devoted to Wiszniewski, which was made by his friends.
