Frequently asked questions

When will the festival be held?


– 25 May-1 June 2025 in cinemas,
– 30 May-15 June 2025 online at www.krakowfilmfestival.pl

What kind of films are accepted for the selection?


– documentary films (running time restrictions are defined in each competition),
– animated films up to 30 minutes,
– short fiction films up to 30 minutes,
– films made in 2024 and 2025 that were not screened publicly before 3 June 2024.

Can I submit a film to a non-competitive section?


– There is no separate submission form for the non-competitive sections. However, you can choose in the entry form if you want your film to be considered for the non-competitive sections,
– Out of all the films submitted for selection, the organisers may choose the films to be screened in the non-competitive sections.

What are the deadlines?


The following deadlines apply:

International competitions:
– 30 November 2024: for films made prior to 31 October 2024,
– 31 January 2025: for films made after 31 October 2024.

National competition:
– 30 November 2024: for films made prior to 31 October 2024,
– 15 February 2025: for films made after 31 October 2024.

Can I submit a film which was submitted to the previous editions of the festival?


– No, the films submitted to the previous editions shall not be considered.

Is there an entry fee?


– Yes, the festival shall charge the following entry fees:
– for films not exceeding 30 minutes: EUR 15,
– for films exceeding 30 minutes: EUR 30.
– The submission fee shall not apply to Polish films,
– Films produced in the below-listed countries are exempted from entry fees (not applicable to films co-produced with countries which are not listed below): Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo Dem. Rep., Cuba, Eritrea, Gambia, Gwinea-Bissau, Haiti, India, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Kamboja, Kamerun, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Micronesia, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria,Tajikistan, Tanzania, Togo, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

How many films can I submit?


– You can submit any number of films.

Can the Polish film be submitted to the international competition?


– No. Polish films can be submitted to the national (Polish) competition only. Out of them, the films for the international competitions will be chosen.

Which competition should the co-production with Poland be submitted to?


– Films with a majority Polish financial participation should be submitted to the Polish (National) competition,
– Films with a majority foreign financial participation should be submitted to the appropriate international competition.

Can I submit a work-in-progress for selection?

Are English subtitles obligatory?


– Yes. Preview and screening copies must have English subtitles (does not apply to films whose original language is English).

Is any kind of a premiere required?


– Yes, we require the following premiere:
– International competitions – the film must be a Polish premiere and a world premiere is preferred,
– National competition – the film must be a Polish premiere,
– The film cannot be presented at any film festival or film review, theatrically released, broadcast on TV, streamed on a VOD platform or any other online media in Poland prior to the festival dates,
– Non-competitive sections – a Polish premiere is preferred,

Premiere definitions:
– the first screening of the film to any audience, including country of origin,
– International premiere – the first screening to any audience outside country of origin,
– European premiere – the first screening in Europe,
– Polish premiere – the first screening in Poland.

Wll you inform me about the selection results?


– Yes. Applicants shall be informed whether the film was admitted to or rejected from the programme by email sent at least 30 days before the start of the festival,
– The list of films selected for competitions and non-competitive sections shall be placed at www.krakowfilmfestival.pl as soon as the selection process is completed.

Will you send me a confirmation that my film was successfully registered?


– The confirmation with the film ID appears after filling in the entire entry form,
– The confirmation will be sent also by email to the contact person.
