A record number of submissions!

For the first time the number of submissions has exceeded 3000.

The call for entries for documentary, short and animated films for 53rd Krakow Film Festival has ended in a record number of 3082 submissions.

We have been accepting entries for documentary, short and animated films produced within last year. The selected productions will be presented to our audience in four competitions: three international and one national. All the films in the international competition will be presented in Poland for the first time.

 – The number of submission confirms a high international interest in our festival – says Patrycja Czarny, responsible for coordinating the selection – Last year we received 2475 submissions, and this year the record has been beaten: we got 3082 entries from all over the world. The significant increase in submissions proves a great reputation of Krakow Film Festival, but also seems to be the effect of introducing the new section – music documentary competition.

Among over 3000 entries, 266 is Polish, including 27 co-productions. The short fictions are the most numerous – 1559 submissions, among them 88 Polish. The next most numerous are feature-length documentaries (over 30 minutes) – the organizers have received 726 entries, including 77 Polish. The short documentaries have come in the number of 441, including 74 Polish and 356 animations (27 Polish) have been submitted.

The statistics looks interesting when comes to country of origin. The first place belongs to France with 371 submissions, only two films less came from Germany – 369, then follow Spain (231), United Kingdom (186) and United States (148). Looks like the last year was busy for filmmakers from South Korea, Iran, Mexico, Brazil, India, Lebanon or Georgia, but the title of most exotic producer would probably go to Malaysia, Nepal, Cambodia, Botswana or Faroe Islands.

The submissions are accepted nearly for half a year, but the ‘highest traffic’ occurs at the close proximity of the final deadline. Usually about six weeks pass between closing the call for entries and announcing the selected films. This means a hard work for 15-person strong Selection Committee and its coordinator Patrycja Czarny. The Selection Committee works under the supervision of Krzysztof Gierat, Festival director and the results of their work will be known In the beginning of April.
