Critical mornings. Lunch with 56th Krakow Film Festival

Throughout the entire festival week respected film critics will host eminent directors, familiarizing the audience with them and their work.

Krakow Film Festival is not only the presentation of over 250 world-class documentary, short and animated films, but also a perfect platform for the meetings between the audience and the film-makers. In response to the expectations of the viewers, a new series is created this year – Critical mornings, that is, close meetings between critics responsible for the selection with the authors of the films which they selected.

Throughout the entire festival week in Pauza in Garden, respected film critics will host eminent directors, familiarizing the audience with them and their work. The conversations in a relaxed atmosphere of a cafe, with the participation of the audience, will be a perfect start to each festival day, as well as an infrequent opportunity to drink coffee in the company of a star from the world of film.

The series begins on Monday with the meeting of Anita Piotrowska with Piotr Stasik, the director of the documentary film “21 x New York City,” which will open this year’s edition of the Festival and will participate in two competitions: the national one and in the international documentary film competition. The author will certainly talk about the making of the film and the details of his adventure in New York.

On Tuesday, the meeting with the respected Italian-Swedish director, writer and film producer will be hosted by Joanna Ostrowska. Erik Gandini is the author of the film “The Swedish Theory of Love,” which inaugurates the section “Focus on Sweden,” devoted entirely to the cinematography of this country.

Marcel Łoziński, the eminent documentary film-maker and the winner of this year’s Dragon of Dragons award, granted for his contribution to the international documentary cinema, will be the guest of Jerzy Armata on Wednesday. During this year’s edition of the Festival, a broad retrospective of his films will be presented, and the meeting will contribute to depict his connection with Krakow Film Festival, where he was honoured many times.

The protagonist of the Critical morning on Thursday, held by Anna Bielak, will be the world-renowned American photographer and director, Katy Grannan, who made herself known as the author of the intimate portrait of strangers whom she met thanks to a newspaper advertisement. Her works are in the collections of the greatest museums around the world, and her latest film, “The Nine,” will participate in this year’s international documentary film competition.

On Friday morning, there will be the conversation between Dagmara Romanowska and Benjamin Cleary, the winner of this year’s Academy Award for the film presented in the series Festival Award Winners, “Stutterer,” a member of the jury of the international short film competition.

The last meeting, on Saturday morning, will be hosted by Joanna Chludzińska, and her guest will be the Israeli director and producer, Barak Heymann, the co-author of the poignant documentary film “Who’s gonna love me now?”, presented in the documentary film competition.

Admission to all meetings is free.
