DocFilmMusic 2014 Spring Edition starts on 7th April at Malopolski Ogrod Sztuki.
The screening of “Twenty Feet From Stardom” – this year’s winner of the Academy Award for a feature documentary – will open the spring edition of DocFilmMusic 2014 on 7th April in Krakow. It is a year-round project inspired by our youngest competition of music documentaries, which has been launched last year. During the spring edition we will present 6 titles that have already entered the canon of music documentaries.
Starting on 7th April we invite you for an exclusive overview of music documentaries held at the Malopolski Ogrod Sztuki in Krakow. It is branded by the Festival’s director Krzysztof Gierat and a music critic Piotr Metz.
Four of the proposed films have never been shown in Polish cinemas, three are winners of the Krakow Film Festival, and one will be screened in Poland for the first time.
We will begin with a real rarity – “Twenty Feet From Stardom” is a movie by Morgan Neville, awarded this year with an Oscar for best feature documentary. The film, which had its premiere in 2013 in Sundance, has also received statuettes at festivals in Seattle, San Francisco and Amsterdam, and in Poland it was only shown at the Warsaw Film Festival. It tells the story of vocalists singing in the chorus of stars such as U2, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen.
The audience will also have a chance to watch films shown during earlier editions of the Festival. “Jimmy Rosenberg – The Father, The Sohn & The Talent” directed by Jeroen Berkvens is the winner of our first competition of feature documentaries from 2007. “Beware of Mr. Baker!” has been awarded last year with the Golden Heynal as the best music documentary, and “Miłość” ("Love") by Filip Dzierżawski received the Golden Hobby-Horse in the national competition as well as the audience award.
The programme also includes the American documentary “The Band Called Death” telling a story of the legendary punk trio Death, which has never been projected in Poland, and the film “Mistaken For Strangers”, one of the biggest hits of the last Warsaw Film Festival as well as many foreign events. It’s a treat for fans of The National, which will perform in Poland in June.
All the screenings, announced by the duet of a film specialist and a music critic, will take place in the Malopolski Ogrod Sztuki where we have had our festival office since last year.
TICKETS: 8 PLN, buy online: HERE.
The event is organised by: Krakow Film Festival, Malopolski Ogrod Sztuki, Kino Pod Baranami.
