‘Enemies of the People’ with a chance for Oscar

‘Enemies of the People’ among 15 documentaries running for an Oscar nomination.

‘Enemies of the People’ directed by Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath, which won the Silver Horn at the 50th Krakow Film Festival, is among the 15 titles that will compete for Oscar nominations in the category of Documentary Feature.

Thet Sambeth was a child of moderately rich peasants when the Khmer Rouge murdered his family. After many years, as a journalist and filmmaker, he decided to find those who have the blood of one million people on their hands. Thousands responsible for the Killing Fields are still living in Cambodia. For many years Sambeth has been looking for the past murderers to persuade them to have a frank conversation with him in front of the camera. The descendant of Pol Pot’s victims does not seek revenge, he just wants to understand what happened in his country in the 1970s.

Oscar nominations will be announced on 25th January 2011. The awards ceremony will be held on 27th February, 2011.
