The Wonderful Kingdom of Papa Alaev
Israel, France2016documentary74'Konkurs DocFilmMusic (2017)
The performances of the Alaev family each time take the audience by storm. Coming from Tajikistan, the band introduces the sound of traditional instruments from Central Asia, primarily percussion, to Jewish music. The leader of the group is charismatic Allo Papa Alaev, who is now raising the third generation of virtuosos. The film presents the history of the family and the everyday life of its members. Although they submitted to Papa’s authority, they still remain open to new inspirations.
