This documentary shows an exceptional phenomenon of the grand-scale national competition “Red Kalina” in which inmates from across Russia sing their way to freedom with songs about longing, war, love and forgiveness. Out of 700 prisoners only 30 may take part in the grand finale. The camera follows their struggle and first rehearsals from the very beginning revealing real stories that inspired the lyrics of songs.
