Awaiting
Poland1962animated10'Retrospektywa Witolda Giersza (2017)
A man waiting for a woman at a café table. The viewer can only see his hands which, to kill the time, reach out for napkins to conjure up two paper figures from them, a man and a woman. This is when the animated story about love begins. A unique film among the artist’s achievements (made together with documentary filmmaker Ludwik Perski), it was not drawn or painted but made as a collage of the puppet technique and live action. Awarded, among others, in Cannes, Edinburgh and Moscow.
