In 1974, scientists made an extraordinary discovery. They found a vast lake under the ice desert of Antarctica, Lake Vostok, which had been untouched for 400 thousand years. In the spring of 2012, after 40 years of drilling, Russian researchers cut through the ice. The film tells a story of the evolution of life and climate, the story of the four decades of the exploration of the coldest place on Earth and accompanies the scientists on their most important expedition.
