In the 21st century, there are still places where residents can do very well without the achievements of contemporary medicine. In the village of El Dorado, almost every ailment is treated using traditional methods, which are not always rational. Jorge enjoys special fame in this community as he discovered a miraculous agent that fights existential fear called ‘espanto’. Combining miraculousness with folk humour, the film depicts the unique climate of Argentinian provinces.
