Obon

Obon is the Japanese All Saints Festival, lasting several days, organised to honour spirits of ancestors. The protagonist of the animation, Akita Takakura, is one of the last survivors of the Hiroshima attack. In her memories, she goes back not only to the terrifying war events, but also to the relationship with her father – difficult, demanding and full of love. “Obon”, bordering on the documentary, shows, on the one hand, the brutal picture of the cruelty of war and, on the other, the subtle bond between the father and his daughter.
