Come Back Free

The eponymous phrase “come back free” is an expression rooted in the Chechen tradition. In Chechnya, the war never ends. To survive, you have to be prepared to fight any time. Life in the small village depicted in the film means existence in which there is no end to continuous fear, sadness and longing for freedom. The pivotal part in this poetic documentary belongs to a cemetery, coming back like a refrain, which is juxtaposed with the everyday life of the village and its rituals in different seasons.
