The Christmas Gift
Romania2018fiction23'Konkurs krótkometrażowy (2018)
Romanian realism in a perverse, tragicomic version. The stormy changes of December 1989 are presented from the perspective of a seemingly innocent letter to Santa Claus. What did one boy write in it, so that his father begins to panic and fear for his own life? What causes the sudden curiosity of the neighbour? Why are they calling from work just now? Bogdan Muresanu, a graduate of political science in Bucharest and the London Film Academy, reminds us that Great History drags everyone into its wheels, spinning implacably, and cinema may tell stories about it in a modest, human way, which is not devoid of poignancy.
