"Forbidden Songs" is the first Polish feature film that went into cinema distribution after World War II. Initially, it was planned as a documentary. Its protagonist is music – street songs and chants that accompanied people during the Nazi occupation helping them to cope with the terrifying reality and endure the difficult times. They make the foreground for the story of a street orchestra, an underground organisation and a German female informer.
