The Border Fence
Austria2018documentary112'Konkurs dokumentalny (2019)
Picturesque and idyllic Tirol has become the stage for the changes occurring in the European Union today. In 2016, the borders between Austria and Italy were closed in order to stop the influx of immigrants from the south. What do the residents of the region on both sides of the border think about it? Avoiding an off-stage commentary, the film director gives voice to policemen, farmers, small businessmen and tourists coming to the Alps. Their accounts reveal a different picture than the one offered by the media or bellowing politicians, the one that complicates the eternal dilemma: security or freedom.
