Hippos
Poland2014animated12'Retrospektywa Piotra Dumały (2021)
Naked women are bathing with their children in the river. This idyllic scene is observed by a group of intrigued men. They decide to approach them. Their meeting takes on an unusual course, full of dramatic tension. Suspense and the atmosphere of danger is emphasised by Alexander Bǎlǎnescu’s expressive music. This kind of herding behaviour has been observed in the community of hippos, hence the title of this unconventional story about mutual attraction and repulsion of genders. Hippos, one of the most award-winning films by Dumała, was honoured in Zagreb, Ottawa, Bilbao, Montreal and Krakow (Silver Hobby Horse).
