The Filmmaker's House
United Kingdom2020documentary75'Gdzieś w Europie (2021)
Marc Isaacs opens up the door to his house before us and reveals the secrets of the film backstage. He shows a Columbian cleaner, British workers fixing the fence in the garden, a neighbour from Pakistan serving everyone a delicious lunch and a homeless man from Slovakia who may sometimes sleep on his couch. Very skilfully, the director blurs the boundary between the documentary and fiction until the spectators start to lose their certainty about the perspective of their reception. Are the individuals on screen playing any parts? What is the director’s role? Full of invention, Isaac’s performance is amusing and disturbing at the same time.
