The Forest
Poland2009fiction76'Retrospektywa Piotra Dumały (2021)
Dumała’s feature debut. This story about the search for mutual understanding, overcoming of barriers, trust, feeling and the need of closeness impresses us with it contemplative narration, careful composition and the story development based on images above all. Words, which only complement the message conveyed by the photographs, are applied economically. A son (Mariusz Bonaszewski) is taking care of his sick father (Stanisław Brudny). The films shows daily care procedures, meals eaten with difficulty, snippets of conversations. In parallel sequences, there is a walk through the forest taken together by the men. The cinema of special sensitivity, both artistic and human.
