Shtetlers
USA, Russia2020documentary80'Opowieści ze świata (2021)
A nostalgic story woven of the longing for the lost world of Jewish shtetls. The majority of their pre-war inhabitants have been living in the US and Israel for decades, but the memory of their forlorn homeland is still very much alive among them. They are not the only ones that cherish the memory of the past. There are people living near old shtetls who are trying not to forget about their former neighbours. They cultivate their traditions, prepare kosher meals or, as one protagonist does, decide to undergo conversion. Those who stayed share the yearning of those who left.
