Franz Kafka
Poland1991animated16'Retrospektywa Piotra Dumały (2021)
Dumała’s plasterboard animation films abundantly draw on literary classics ranging from the world of Fyodor Dostoyevsky and the internal landscapes of Franz Kafka. This one, made in the convention of an animated documentary, focuses on the life and work of a genius from the early 20th century Prague. It needs to be noted that many masters of animation, including Caroline Leaf, Zbigniew Rybczyński, Koji Yamamura and Longin Szmyd, have been interested in the biography and literature of Franz Kafka. Dumała’s unconventional biopic, awarded with the Bronze Dragon and the statuette of Don Quixote (1992), is the leader among them.
