Timetables flashing at a dizzying pace and intertwining networks are juxtaposed with Hokusai’s drawings – this is a story, set in Japan, about travelling and the world rushing ahead faster and faster. The spirit of Bashō’s poetry is permeating the whole animation, setting a tone of philosophical reflection to this visually intense film. Japanese culture symbols such as haiku, origami or calligraphy, are contrasted with elements of everyday life: crammed railway platforms, fast trains and face masks. Czapla has created an animation very closely mirroring the reality, and at the same time unobvious and elusive.
