Kapr Code
Czech Republic, Slovakia2022documentary91'Międzynarodowy konkurs DocFilmMusic (2022)
Such a biography could not be recounted in a good old-fashioned way. Sung by a contemporary choir, it shows off the musical legacy left by Jan Kapr and his abundant private archives, including letters, notes or amateur films. Kapr was among the top Czechoslovak composers. He had a passionate fling with the Stalinist government, but in 1968 he fell out of favour with it. Employing comic means, the film shows this colourful, albeit complicated musical experimenter as the artist is navigating his life in a destitute time.
