Penelope, My Love
France2021documentary88'Bliscy (2022)
For eighteen years, director Claire Doyon accompanied her daughter, who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, with her camera. It is an extraordinary film diary documenting the story of life before and after the diagnosis and the unique relationship between the mother and the daughter, which develops and matures before our eyes. We accompany the protagonists from the diagnosis through the successive methods of coping with this still demonised disorder to the stage of understanding and accepting the new way of life and communication. A tender story about a difficult love, full of sacrifices but unconditional.
