What is the secret of the authenticity of the Baroque master’s painting? Is it the paint composition? The technique of its application? The art of chiaroscuro? Or, possibly, is it determined by intuition, feelings or impressions evoked in those who saw the intimate scenes? Paraphrasing Richard Feynman, a genius physicist, one may say that the more we know about Vermeer and his art, the more potent, more fascinating and invariably mysterious he becomes. Efforts devoted to the study of his works bring together the artist’s enthusiasts – art historians, curators and conservators.
