In February the next part of our jubilee cycle is presented – this time achievements of Yugoslav cinematography from its heyday. The country has disappeared, the films remain…
‘Made in Yugoslavia’ is a cycle of twelve shorts made in 60s, 70s and 80s in “Zagreb school of animated film” and “Belgrade school of documentary film”. The first reason why the short films could thrive in Yugoslavia, is that Josip Broz Tito’s party focused on fighting with filmmakers of feature length films and did not interfere with authors of short films, which had much smaller audience. The second reason was the explosion of talents – filmmakers create their little masterpieces, not treating them merely as a stage in their career, but as achievement itself.
