The program of the 42nd Polish Film Festival consists of 50 films taking part in the Main Competition, Visions Apart Competition and Short Film Competition, yet there are also plenty of out-of-competition sections. Among them there are Special Screenings, the most recent productions of filmmakers associated with Gdynia and films awarded at the 57th Krakow Film Festival.
Thanks to the cooperation between Polish Film Festival and Krakow Film Festival the audience gathered in Gdynia will have a chance to see selected films awarded this year in Krakow. In the “KFF Catching Waves” program there are three documentaries and one animation.
On September 20th the “KFF Catching Waves” program will be initiated with the screening of a Polish documentary which at the 57th KFF received a special mention in the International Documentary Competition as well as the KFF Recommendation to the European Film Award. “THE BEKSIŃSKIS. A Sound and Picture Album” directed by Marcin Borchardt is a moving story about complicated family relations, recreated entirely from the film and sound archives whose author was predominantly the famous Polish painter.
During the next day of the Festival Multikino cinema in Gdynia will fill up with the sounds of the best film of this year’s KFF DocFilmMusic Competition. Awarded in Krakow with the Golden Heynal Till Schauder’s film “When God Sleeps” tells a story of a dangerous clash between religious radicalism and freedom of artistic expression.
During the last screening of the “KFF Catching Waves” section we will see: “The Ugliest Car” awarded both by the National Competition Jury and the Student Jury, and “Strange Case” which outshined not only Polish but also international competitors in the best animated film category.
All the screenings of the “KFF Catching Waves” section will be introduced by the director of Krakow Film Festival – Krzysztof Gierat.
