KFF Industry: Projects selected for the Animated in Poland

KFF INDUSTRY: We know projects selected for the Animated in Poland pitch.

Six Polish animations at the production stage will be presented during the Animated in Poland film pitch at the Krakow Film Festival. Filmmakers and producers will have a chance to meet film experts who will decide or advise on the future of their films. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the whole event will take place online.

Animated in Poland is a section of the KFF Industry programme that focuses on Polish animated films. It comprises of panel discussions, presentations of projects and animation studios and individual one-on-one meetings.

One of the most important events of this year’s edition, both for the filmmakers and the experts invited from all around the world, will be the film pitch – presentation of short Polish animations at the last stage of production. Each project will be presented by a director and/or a producer in front of an audience consisting of international specialist from the film industry: distributors, sales agents, festival programmers and film institutions representatives. Thanks to that the animations will get a real chance to appear at international festivals and film markets. Six projects will be presented during this year’s edition of Animated in Poland, among them both student films and those prepared in professional studios.

This year the projects representatives will have a chance to talk during individual meetings with e.g. festival selectors (Berlinale, Venice Film Festival, Animateka), sales agents, distributors and commissioning editors from TV networks.

The presentations will be preceded by consultations and workshops on pitching techniques run by Wim Vanacker, member of the selection committee for the Official Short Film Competition at Cannes Film Festival and former Head of the Script Department of NISI MASA and European Short Pitch – one of the most important short film pitches in Europe.

The film pitch takes place on June 2, 2020 at 2 pm.

Partners of the Animated in Poland film pitch are Sound Mind and the Audiovisual Technology Centre (CeTA). Just like in previous years one of the presented projects will receive a voucher for 10-day sound postproduction in Sound Mind studio managed by Michał Fojcik. For the third time Animated in Poland will grant a Special Mention founded by CeTA in the form of 30 000 PLN in-kind contribution for the production of the film made by the awarded filmmaker/producer, which includes lending equipment and infrastructure and providing certain services. The prize will be redeemed in the Audiovisual Technology Centre CeTA in Wroclaw.

Animated in Poland Talent Market and Panel Discussion

As a part of Animated in Poland the Polish Animation Producers Association SPPA will co-organize Talent Market. The event is planned as a meeting of producers with animated film directors. Scriptwriters, animators, directors and producers looking for a co-producer will have a chance to meet producers and Polish animation studio owners who are looking for new ideas and film projects. During Talent Market the representatives of five different animation studios (Animoon, EGoFilm, Letko, Pigeon and WJTeam / Likaon) will present their animated production catalogues and talk about the projects they are currently working on. After a short presentation of the firms, individual meetings with producers will take place. Talent Market starts at 3 pm on July 1.

Another event being a part of Animated in Poland is a panel discussion “Director and producer – different roles, same goal” organised in co-operation with Krakow Animation Center and Lassota Krawiec Law Firm. Invited panellists: Robert Sowa – animated film director and producer, Head of the Animation Film Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and artistic director and CEO of the Krakow Animation Center; Aneta Zagórska – film producer and founder of Krakow Film Klaster; Marcin Lassota from Lassota Krawiec Law Firm – lawyer specialising in film law, copyright law and litigations, will talk about how the cooperation between directors and producers looks like, what is a producer responsible for and what is the role of a director. What are their roles and responsibilities? How to join forces to accomplish the same goal – make a film? They will explain the basic terms in copyright law and discuss how a good partnership during film production works. “Director and producer – different roles, same goal” panel discussion starts at 2 pm on June 6.
