The last Sunday of May and a packed Kijów cinema could mean only one thing. The opening gala of the 64th Krakow Film Festival is behind us. The inauguration was led by the festival director Krzysztof Gierat, with a welcoming address from the Mayor of Kraków, Aleksander Miszalski. This year’s jury panels were introduced on stage, followed immediately by the numerous team behind the opening film. The world premiere of the documentary I Am the Creation of Fiction was introduced by producer Katarzyna Kubacka-Seweryn, director Arkadiusz Bartosiak, and the film’s hero – Andrzej Seweryn.
After the festival’s official opening, the audience at the Kijów cinema watched Arkadiusz Bartosiak’s documentary I Am the Creation of Fiction.
“I have achieved everything I wanted in life,” says renowned Polish actor Andrzej Seweryn before taking us on a dynamic journey through his numerous professional challenges, which he tackles with youthful vigour. This is not a biopic summarising his artistic achievements – hundreds of outstanding roles in film and theatre, political activism, or his long-term directorship at the Polish Theatre in Warsaw. The actor remains at the peak of his career and never slows down for a moment. The camera becomes a companion to his daily activities, allowing us to witness first-hand his emotions and passion for work that emerge in real time.
A Q&A session was held after the screening with Katarzyna Kubacka-Seweryn, director Arkadiusz Bartosiak, and the film’s protagonist Andrzej Seweryn, moderated by film critic Anita Piotrowska.
This year’s opening film will enjoy two more screenings at the festival: on Wednesday at 11:00 at Kino Pod Baranami as part of Mature Cinema, and on Thursday at 14:00 at Kino ASP.
