The Krakow Film Festival waits for your film!
The submission for the 59th Krakow Film Festival, which is held from the 26th of May to the 2nd of June 2019, have just started.
The Krakow Film Festival is one of the oldest events in the world, dedicated to documentary, animated and short feature films. During the eight festival days, the viewers have a chance to watch about 250 films from Poland and from around the world.
We are waiting for submissions of documentary, animated and short films to the four competitions – Polish competition and three international competitions: documentary film competition, short film competition and the music documentary film competition DocFilmMusic.
Thanks to the co-operation with the European Film Academy, the festival award-winners are on the fast track as far as applying for the European Film Award nominations in the categories: the best feature-length documentary film and the best short film is concerned. For several years, the festival has been included on the list of festivals qualifying for the Academy Awards in the short film category, which means that the winners of all three awards in the short film competition are on a fast track to the Academy Award nominations. This year, the Krakow Film Festival, as the only festival in Poland, is included in the prestigious group of festivals qualifying for the Oscar award also in the feature-length documentary film category.
The Krakow Film Festival is accredited by FIAPF.
Deadlines for submitting films for to the selection in the Polish competition:
- The 30th of November, 2018, if the film was completed before the 31st of October 2018.
- The 15th of February 2019, if the film was completed after the 31st of October 2018.
From among the films submitted to the Polish competition, the selection panel chooses films which participate in the international competition (they have to meet the requirements which are obligatory in the individual competitions), in the new section Panorama of the Polish documentary film and other non-competing sections.
Deadlines for submitting films to the international competitions: short film competition, documentary film competition and the DocFilmMusic competition.
- The 30th of November, 2018, if the film was completed before the 31st of October 2018.
- The 31st of January 2019, if the film was completed after the 31st of October 2018.
In the short film competition, feature, animated and documentary films with a running time of no more than 30 minutes compete for the Golden Dragon award.
In the documentary film competition, the main award is the Golden Horn, and documentary films with a running time longer than 30 minutes: medium- and feature-length films participate in this competition.
In the DocFilmMusic competition, the Golden Heynal award goes to one of music documentary films with a running time longer than 50 minutes.
The Polish competition, the main award of which is the Golden Hobby-Horse, accepts submissions only of Polish feature and animated films no longer than 30 minutes and documentary films of any length.
In all three international competitions, a Polish première is required, while an international première is preferred. In the Polish competition, preference is given to the première films, which have not been distributed in cinemas in Poland and which have not been shown at any other Polish film festival, taking place before the 59th KFF.
