“The Virgin, the Copts and Me” in cinemas

This Friday documentary comedy distributed by Krakow Film Foundation will hit the cinemas in Poland.

Documentary comedy "The Virgin, the Copts and Me" directed by Namir Abdel Meesseh will be shown in Polish art-house cinemas from Friday, 16th November. The premiere will take place on the preceeding night, 15th November, at Kino Pod Baranami in Krakow.

Namir is a young French filmmaker born in a family of Egyptian Copts. Although sceptical about miracles, he decides to go to Egypt to make a film about Virgin Mary’s revelations, as commissioned by the French television. It will also be a return, important for him, to the country of his ancestors and the sources of his religion, as well as an opportunity to meet his family. However, when he arrives, things get so complicated that Namir will have to make a completely different film than the one he originally intended.

The film has received good reviews from the international press:

Variety: "The Virgin, the Copts and Me" is a disarmingly honest, thoroughly winning personal portrait of family and heritage, grounded in religion but not dependent on belief."

Screendaily: "This alternately hilarious, moving and illuminating first-person documentary, ostensibly about miraculous apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Coptic Christians in Egypt, comes on at times like the work of a French-Egyptian Morgan Spurlock."

The premiere will take place on 15th November, at 6.30 p.m., at Kino Pod Baranami in Krakow. Then film will be screened in the cinemas across Poland:
